History
The Henderson Fire Department was first organized in 1914, with 20 volunteer firefighters. From 1914 to 1927, the Fire Department's equipment consisted of a bucket brigade for fire protection. The first paid firefighters were hired in 1916 and the department has continued to grow to where it is currently, with eight vehicles that include fire engines, a ladder truck, brush truck and tanker.
Today, the Henderson Fire Department contains a combination of career and volunteer firefighters, with 17 career and 20 volunteer.
Henderson Fire Department is currently rated a Class 2 by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) and its
Public Protection Classification program.
The Henderson Fire Department averages 800 calls per year consisting mainly of fire suppression, rescue, and first response.
