[ARCHIVED] City Seeks public input in updating Zoning Ordinance

The City of Henderson has embarked upon a very important effort to overhaul its outdated zoning ordinance. The Zoning ordinance is one of the most important and far reaching set of regulations for a city. It effects new and existing development, throughout the City. It establishes the rules regarding both improvements to and use of property, so that how we use and improve our property does not damage the quality of life and property value of our neighbor. It is very important that a city have strong clear zoning regulations: too much and the regulations become burdensome; not enough, and business and home owners lose the protection that a good zoning ordinance provides.

The City’s Zoning Ordinance was originally adopted over 30 years ago in 1984 and has been amended more than 3 dozen times since then. The City’s ordinance has not kept pace with changes to state law, changes in technology, changes to “Best Management Practices” and has gaps and inconsistencies. The City felt the best route to take was to overhaul the whole ordinance, utilizing what was good from what we had, to create a new set of regulations. It is vital that public input is received throughout this process so that the end product is reflective of the vision and values of the community. To this end the public is invited to complete the following brief survey. In addition if you have other comments or suggestions please feel free to send them to the City Manager at tkelty@hendersontx.us.
