CITY EVENTS

mg
  • August Regular Rescheduled Council Meeting - August 6th at 6;00 PM at the Municipal Services Complex
  • August Regular Council Meeting – August 20th at 6:00 PM at the Municipal Services Complex; First Public Hearing on Proposed Budget
  • Freedom Fest 2024 | The Afterglow - This year’s 4th of July Freedom Festival was a huge success with arguably the largest crowd we've seen so far and wonderful weather. Our planning committee did an outstanding job over the last few months and weeks of organizing the details. Our Public Service crew members did an amazing job of preparing Lake Forest Park for the event with landscaping and all maintenance needs. Our Police and Fire Departments were extraordinary with their help with parking and traffic management. Henderson ISD also did an excellent job with their shuttle service to and from the event and we are very grateful for their continuous partnership.

PROJECT UPDATES

New City Hall
  • The Director of Utility Infrastructure and Delivery, David Hortman, has been hired to address concerns about Henderson's water and wastewater system. He will focus on maintenance, updating infrastructure, and planning for future water needs in collaboration with surrounding providers.
  • The water meter upgrade and replacement project is nearing completion, with less than 200 meters left to install.
  • The City is working with Stokes and Associates to put together the bid packet for the next street contract. The contract bid date will be set once all the details are engineered and finalized.
  • City crews have been extremely busy due to the amount of rain and storms we’ve had over the last 2 months.  Vegetation continues to grow at an extremely fast rate, but the soggy ground makes it difficult to mow without tearing up the ground with equipment.  Thankfully we have had a few dry days making it easier to work in our parks, cemeteries and right-of-ways.
  • The regional recycling building, Rivers Recycling Facility, burned to the ground on the evening of June 12th and is a total loss.  This facility is the location that every solid waste provider in the East Texas region, including Henderson, uses for their recycling.  We are urging our recycling customers to continue separating materials as we look to find a solution.

Congratulations, Jay!

On June 23rd, City Manager Jay Abercrombie, assumed the role and responsibilities as the President of the Texas City Management Association (TCMA) at their annual conference. TCMA is the state association for City Managers and Administrators in Texas.

"My role as President allows me to lead our Executive Board through the Strategic Plan of TCMA and allows me to cast my own vision and goals related to how the association helps managers and aspiring managers in their current and future roles. I am excited to visit all 10 regions across our state and visit with City Managers to hear their perspectives on many local government issues. Thank you to the Mayor and Council for your continued support of my involvement in these industry associations. I am blessed to collaborate with leaders that understand and appreciate the need for peer collaboration when it comes to professional development."  - Jay Abercrombie, Henderson City Manager
