Laizzez Le Bon Temps Rouler | Let The Good Times Roll

On March 1st people from all walks of life came together to eat, drink and be merry at the annual Mardi Gras event held in downtown Henderson. We truly appreciate everyone who attended from across East Texas; in addition to our Sponsors, Vendors and Staff who made the Downtown Mardi Gras possible.

PROJECT UPDATES

New City Hall
  • Infrastructure Repairs, Enhancements, and Improvements: Public Service crews repaired the bridge at the Sports Complex to restore safe access for visitors and athletes. A dry materials storage shed was constructed at the Public Services Warehouse for better organization and supply protection. At the Surface Water Treatment Plant, an air compressor building was built to support operations, and filter media was removed during routine maintenance to maintain water quality.
  • Parks and Cemetery Maintenance: Tree trimming at the Old City Cemetery was conducted to enhance safety and preserve its historic significance. Mowing operations have begun for parks, cemeteries, and city-owned properties, along with the launch of the annual turf management program to encourage healthy grass growth.
  • Water Meter Upgrades and Replacement: Crews are finalizing the installation of the remaining active and inactive water meters, addressing communication issues between transponders and collectors in challenging geographical areas. The meter replacement process has taken longer than anticipated due to initial supply chain issues, and we have engaged Performance Services to provide additional training and marketing for staff and customers on the new portal and software. Additionally, pressure monitoring equipment will be installed on main water lines to detect and predict leaks, enhancing long-term maintenance.
  • Street Contract Update: The street reconstruction project is progressing in phases, with most of the underground water and sewer infrastructure work completed. However, drainage system work in the Big Oak Subdivision is ongoing due to persistent groundwater challenges. Once resolved, street rebuilding will begin, with Buford Lane and St. Paul Street slated for the next phase of work, weather permitting.
  • GIS Mapping Progress: Our team is mapping critical infrastructure, including water and sewer lines, valves, and fire hydrants, to facilitate accurate utility rate assessments and streamline work order processes. The integration of updated GIS data with our work order system will improve efficiency and reduce costs. Staff training is underway, and we are leveraging our partnership with the City of Longview to maximize GIS technology use in daily operations.
