PROJECT UPDATES

New City Hall
  • Street Contract Update: The street reconstruction project is moving forward in phases, with most underground utility work now complete. Drainage improvements continue in the Big Oak Subdivision due to persistent groundwater challenges. The base has been rebuilt on Buford Lane, and work is now underway on MLK. St. Paul is expected to follow, depending on the contractor’s schedule and logistics. With the recent stretch of favorable weather, we’re optimistic about making solid progress. The City thanks residents for their continued patience throughout this process.
  • Payment Kiosk: A new payment kiosk has been installed in the “doghouse” building at the Municipal Service Complex. Designed to match the main building and provide a secure, weather-protected space, the kiosk is currently undergoing system testing. Staff training is underway, and once operational, the kiosk will accept utility and court fine payments 24/7 via cash, check, or credit card.
  • Infrastructure Updates: City crews made progress on several infrastructure projects this month. Street and pothole repairs continued, focusing on both resident-reported and high-traffic areas. Drainage repairs were completed in key locations to prevent spring flooding, with ongoing monitoring in place. Outdated street signs were replaced to improve visibility and safety. Additionally, the bridge at the Sports Complex was successfully repaired and is now fully operational.

Firefighter Training

This month, members of the Henderson Fire Department participated in an intensive two-day Heavy Vehicle Rescue Training. Firefighters learned advanced techniques to safely stabilize large vehicles—including big trucks, buses, and other heavy equipment—during rescue operations.

These hands-on drills focused on critical skills needed to extract victims from overturned or crushed vehicles, preparing our crews for some of the most complex and high-risk rescue scenarios they may face. This training strengthens our ability to protect the community in emergencies involving commercial vehicles and ensures our first responders are always ready when seconds count.
