JUDGE OF THE MUNICIPAL COURT

Honorable James Holmes 

Judge James Holmes graduated from Buna High School in Buna, Texas in 1985. Afterward, he studied History and Political Science at Rice University in Houston, Texas from 1985 through 1989. In 1989, Judge Holmes earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Rice University. Later he attended Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law in Dallas, receiving a Law Degree with Honors in 1992. 

Judge Holmes is admitted to practice before all State and Federal courts in Texas, as well as the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has been a proud resident of Henderson practicing law in Rusk County since 1993.


 

COURT CLERK'S OFFICE 


The Court Clerk’s Office serves as the administrative arm of the Municipal Court. Administrative functions include timely and accurate processing of complaints filed, courteous response to requests for information from the public, responsible collection of assessed fines and fees, and efficient docketing of cases for adjudication.

The Court is responsible for the adjudication of all Class C misdemeanors filed with the court. This includes violations of the Transportation Code, Penal Code, Education Code, Alcoholic Beverage Code, and the Health and Safety Code. The Court also has exclusive jurisdiction over all City Ordinance violations. Responsibilities include the collection of revenues for the City and the State of Texas; as well as the timely remittance of court costs to the State Comptroller’s Office.
