Founded in 1843, Henderson should be on anyone's list of not-to-be-missed places in East Texas. A State and National Main Street City, Henderson has restored buildings filled with shops and restaurants.
The Henderson Main Street Program seeks to make Downtown a historical showplace, with continued restoration and reuse of buildings and recruitment of new business to the heart of the City. In 1988, Henderson was designated as a Texas Main Street Project City. The entire Downtown is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Downtown Henderson has much to offer: dining, clothing shops, luxury gifts, antiques and collectibles.
The Henderson Main Street Project's mission is to utilize volunteers and public-private partnerships to revitalize and maintain the downtown business district; and to create and keep an attractive historic environment that is economically viable through the Four-Point Approach of organization, design, economic restructuring and promotion.
The Henderson Main Street Project's vision is to have our historic downtown serve as a regional market and gathering place that enhances quality of life and meets the needs of local residents and merchants, and attracts tourists and visitors.
